5 Ways to Immerse Yourself in Motorcycle Culture

You have always been interested in motorcycles and now you are a proud owner of one. On your first ride you were immediately aware of your connection with, and recognition by, other riders. Passing riders were fast to raise a hand in greeting. That feeling of unity was accelerating and now you want to immerse yourself into the motorcycle culture. Without any motorcycle friends or much experience you aren’t sure now to connect with other riders.

In contrast with elitism of certain automobile clubs, nothing could be easier than finding motorcycle groups that want your membership. There are many ways to connect with other riders and here are just five avenues that come to mind.

(1) Check local motorcycle dealerships; ask them what cycle clubs they would recommend for new owners. They’ll give you the name and number of a person to call or they might even call for you. An introduction goes a long way in getting established.

(2) Check at work. You’ll be surprised at how many of your co-workers own motorcycles and would enjoy getting together for rides. There may even be an office bike group that welcomes riders at all levels of experience. This type of connection can put you in touch with fellow employees that you might never have met.

(3) Local newspapers have an outdoor activities section where you can find social groups announcing plans for short touring trips or rallies and are seeking participants. These groups can help you find other social events happening in your area. Many motorcycle groups gather to do volunteer work and fund raising for charities.

(4) Bike repair shops are excellent resources for connecting with local riders. Chances are the mechanics also own cycles and can provide you with tons of information on how to best care for your bike. They can also recommend restaurants or bars where you will meet many other riders.

(5) Local telephone books and the internet will let you know if there are local motorcycle chapters based on your particular motorcycle manufacturer, from Honda and Harley Davidson to Motor Guzzi. This type of camaraderie has an added level when all the members have cycles from the same maker.

Being a motorcycle owner opens the door to a culture that not everyone gets to enjoy. Regardless of how you choose to become involved, take advantage of this gift, throw on your motorcycle boots and connect with other riders today.
